Anna, this isn’t specific to this post exactly, but I just wanted to say again how much your writing has affected me in an uplifting and comforting way, and today I gifted a subscription to a dear friend of mine who is also an artist trying to navigate the balance and the breathing room. I think she will also benefit from learning about what your life is. It’s also a bonus that you are so accessible to your readers in such a kind and supportive way 💜

The first thought that came to mind is THE ALBUM. I grew up in the time of albums. And the agony of track placement for the purpose of story. Like an opera, or a novel. As this show is tied to a character - Jenny West - I can see why the show should unfold in a way that relates to your interpretation of the the character and her journey. But of course that’s just my idea. This is where the collaboration comes in as you turn it over to the intermediaries - those you trust to understand and best showcase the work for the public, the space, and for sale. I can’t imagine the apprehension of letting go for the launch of your “kids” - bon chance, and as always, your show will be brilliant!

I find it so interesting how the brain works through problems in dreams and yours is so vivid ... your artist “in between” even includes your sleep! Thanks for sharing.

This resonated with me. I recently made my own article on Medium to something similar, though more so about how many young artists feel as if social media (likes, follows, etc) values their art. It's interesting, honestly.

I remember when I went to my local art show in the start of this year, I was also super concerned about how people would think of me. My art was related to darker imagery and more comic-inspired, while others were beautiful landscapes and such. It was why when I introduced myself, I went ahead and said "I focus on horror and character art" so that they would know what to expect!

I really enjoyed reading this! You definitely got a new subscriber!

Reading this, I can't help but think how as creatives and artists, we have this deep need to curate things. How at times, our work-flow, and how it is perceived, is also part of the larger art in itself - like how, although each piece is unique and beautiful, how it is experienced forms a larger form of art that you can't find individually in each peace. I am not sure if I am making sense, but I am trying to say that the whole cannot be complete without the individual direction that each piece takes you through. Anyway, just the ramblings of a stranger on the internet.
